Biography

 

Steven M. Anderson's practice is devoted exclusively to patent litigation.  He has litigated and provided counseling regarding a wide array of computer-related and other technologies, such as microprocessors and microcomputers, high-speed video RAMs, field effect transistors, wind energy generation systems, printer driver software, automobile antitheft devices, prepaid wireless telecommunication systems and methods, ink jet printers and cartridges, secure transaction encryption systems and methods, ADSL technology, color scanning electron microscopes, target coordinate location systems and methods, B2B software systems and interactive call processing systems, to name just a few.  Mr. Anderson has been named multiple times as a Southern California "Super Lawyer" by Los Angeles Magazine.

Notable Representations

 

Represented Freedom Wireless in a suit for patent infringement against twelve defendants for infringement of its patents on prepaid wireless telephone systems and methods. The trial lasted 15 weeks and a $128 million jury verdict was entered against several wireless telephone carriers. The verdict is the largest ever awarded in Massachusetts, and was the eighth biggest verdict awarded in the U.S. that year. The case recently settled for a lump sum payment of $87 million, plus on-going royalties which are expected to generate an additional $50 million.

 

Represented 3M in against a major Japanese company and obtained summary judgment of noninfringement of two patents relating to fiber optic technology.

 

Represented Seiko Epson against a major Chinese supplier in a patent infringement case relating to Epson's ink jet cartridge patent portfolio.  Obtained summary judgment of infringement which resulted in a consent judgment and a permanent injunction.

 

Represented a medical device company in a two-month patent infringement trial.  Obtained a jury verdict of $5 million in compensatory damages and a finding of willful infringement.

 

Represented a printer manufacturer in a case alleging theft of trade secrets relating to printer driver software and protocols. Obtained a defense jury verdict.

 

Represented Teledyne and obtained a settlement of a royalty-free license to a patent directed to insulated aircraft wiring after locating critical prior art to the patent.

 

Represented Avery Dennison in a patent matter involving computer-printable index dividers against Acco Brands.  Obtained a settlement which resulted in Acco recognizing the validity of the patent and withdrawing its product from the market.

 

Represented a client against Nissan in a patent infringement matter relating to automobile antitheft devices.  Obtained a settlement involving a substantial payment by Nissan.
