Biography

 

Alex Gerbi acts for a broad range of individual and corporate clients with a particular focus on businesses operating in the financial services, technology, media and telecommunications sectors.

 

Alex’s practice encompasses substantial domestic and international litigation and arbitration matters to include corporate and shareholder disputes, commercial contract claims, joint venture disputes, competition actions, partnership disputes and public law/judicial review challenges. Alex also has extensive experience of representing clients in mediation.

 

Prior to joining the firm, Alex was a partner at Olswang. Alex is recommended by Chambers & Partners, with clients highlighting him as “extremely bright, sensible and practical”.

Acted for BBC Worldwide Limited in its contractual and insolvency based litigation with the administrators of Woolworths plc concerning 2entertain, a DVD and video publishing joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Woolworths.

 

Acted for Titanium Resources Group Limited and its subsidiary, Sierra Rutile Limited, in a substantial claim against its insurers for an indemnity for losses suffered as a result of the capsize of a titanium dredger in Sierra Leone.

 

Acted for a European commercial property investment company in a complex finance dispute with Lehman Brothers and other parties connected with the collapse of Lehmans.

 

Acted for a leading international film business in substantial contractual litigation with a UK film distribution company.

 

Acted for parties in a high value LCIA arbitration concerning the ownership of gas drilling rights in former Russian territories.

 

Acted for Post Office Limited defending a high profile judicial review challenge brought by the Mayor of London to the proposed mass closure of Post Office branches in London.

 

Acted for partners in a global telecommunications business in a long-running ad hoc arbitration concerning the operation and ultimately the dissolution of the partnership.

 

Acted for a leading UK commercial television broadcaster in an AFMA (American Film Marketing Association) arbitration concerning programme rights issues.

 

Acted for a Gibraltarian oil and gas investment company in defence of parallel proceedings brought by interested parties in London and Gibraltar alleging unfair prejudice and breach of trust.

 

Acted for Attheraces, a UK broadcaster of horseracing, in its private law action against the British Horseracing Board for abuse of a dominant position under Article 82 of the EC Treaty and Chapter 2 Competition Act 1998.

 

Acted for a leading UK commercial television broadcaster in complex and high value contractual litigation arising out of the overspill of satellite broadcasts into foreign territories.

 

Acted for Sky Italia against companies in the Walt Disney group in litigation concerning programme licensing and carriage agreements in the Italian market.

 

Acted for an international media rights agency in a Court of Arbitration for Sport arbitration against a leading European football club relating to a commercial project.
