Biography
Sean Pak is a partner with Quinn Emanuel's San Francisco office. He is a patent litigator with extensive experience in litigating, licensing and acquiring patents and other intellectual property across a wide range of hardware and software technologies. In the 2008 Legal 500 US guide, Mr. Pak was recognized for his US patent litigation work. Also in 2008, The Times of London named Mr. Pak a "Future Star of America" and cited his "intellectual prowess, industry expertise and people skills." Representative Clients

Represented plaintiff Veritas Operating Corp. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Symantec) against Microsoft in a multi-faceted case involving claims of trade secret misappropriation, patent infringement, copyright infringement, and contract breach in the field of volume management software, storage array network and automated system recovery technologies in US District Court for the Western District of Washington. Summary judgment of invalidity and non-infringement of Microsoft patent granted. Obtained a successful settlement for Veritas after Markman and summary judgment rulings.
Represented defendant Lucent in a patent case brought by plaintiff Golden Bridge Technology in US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (Marshall) involving a patent claim against power ramping techniques for establishing a random access channel in a 3G wireless network. Summary judgment of invalidity for all asserted claims granted, which was upheld by the Federal Circuit on appeal.
Represented Sony Corporation against Vizio in multiple lawsuits as part of Sony’s patent enforcement program, involving various patents related to interactive television, chrominance signal processing and voltage regulator technologies. Obtained a successful settlement for Sony as the plaintiff.
Currently representing Hynix Semiconductor in a multi-patent infringement case brought by plaintiff and counterclaim-defendant ON Semiconductor in US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (Tyler) involving patents related to DRAM and Flash memory devices and semiconductor manufacturing processes including plasma etch and metal deposition. Also representing Hynix Semiconductor in patent portfolio licensing negotiations involving hundreds of patents related to memory technologies.
Currently representing defendant Sony Electronics Inc. and Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. in a patent infringement case brought by plaintiff Bandspeed in US District Court for the Western District of Texas (Austin) involving patents related to adaptive frequency hopping and asserted against Bluetooth-compliant products, including the Sony PlayStation 3.

Represented Maxxan in the negotiation of a licensing agreement with Phoenix Technologies involving storage area network (SAN) technology. Also, represented Maxxan regarding various license and distribution agreements.
