Internal Investigations

Our partners have an enormous breadth and depth of experience in internal investigations across all substantive areas of criminal and civil regulatory law in the United States and abroad.  We are regularly retained by the most prominent corporations, special committees and boards of directors, as well as by individuals who have been caught up in such investigations, to handle the most sensitive and cutting edge matters in industries ranging from securities, defense, banking and insurance to entertainment, pharmaceuticals and technology.

Among the attorneys in this group are over a dozen former prosecutors, including several alumni of the United States Attorney's Offices in Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco and the former U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California.  Their experience and that of other former government counsel, including former Securities and Exchange Commission counsel, provides our clients with the best available representation.

A prominent national publication recently listed Quinn Emanuel as first among leading law firms with the highest number of stock option "backdating" matters representing corporations and board committees.  In fact, we were retained in one of the most high-profile of these investigations, when at the request of former Vice President Al Gore, we conducted a Special Committee investigation into Apple Computer's historical stock option practices.  Following the completion of our seven-month investigation, the SEC took the highly unusual step of praising our investigative work, specifically citing the quality of our investigation as an affirmative factor in the Commission's ultimate decision to refrain from charging Apple with securities violations.
