Transnational Litigation

Lawyers at our firm have broad experience in significant multi-jurisdictional litigation across international borders in jurisdictions outside the United States, and regularly represent and oppose non-U.S. based persons, companies and governments in a wide range of such matters.  Our clients have benefited from our ability to efficiently analyze foreign-language documentary evidence, effectively deal with non-English-speaking witnesses and cultural differences, and to master international choice-of-law and substantive law issues.

For example, we are currently representing Dr. Enrico Bondi, Extraordinary Commissioner of Parmalat S.P.A. in three separate $10 billion lawsuits arising out of the largest bankruptcy in European history.  Further, we recently represented Seiko Epson, a Japanese company, against numerous Chinese companies, in one of the largest patent infringement cases ever filed with the International Trade Commission, asserting eleven patents and thirty-one claims against 1,000 different cartridge models sold by twenty-four manufacturers, importers and distributors of aftermarket ink cartridges for resale in the U.S.

We have close strategic alliances with 40 of the very best law firms in Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific to serve the interests of our clients around the world and to have a better knowledge of local customs, practices, courts and laws can make the difference between success and failure.  Top firms in every major city in the United States, eight firms in Europe, five firms in Asia, and firms in Australia, Mexico, Canada and South America are members.  Each firm is one of the top two firms in its respective city.  Representatives from each firm meet every six months, and we have worked closely with almost every firm in significant matters and have involved several alliance partners in cases where we act as world-wide coordinating counsel.
