Johanna Ong's practice focuses on complex commercial and structured finance litigation.  She has litigated cases involving breaches of commercial contracts, business torts, class action claims, antitrust violations, fraudulent transfers, and violations of the federal RICO act, Federal False Claims Act, and California Business & Professions Code § 17200.

  • Ms. Ong's clients include (or have included) Rescap Liquidating Trust, PAH Litigation Trust, Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., Fifth Third Bank, Parmalat SpA, Washington Mutual, GMAC Mortgage Company, The Walt Disney Company, News Corporation, Fox Broadcasting Company, Izumi, Parsons Corporation, Zurich Insurance Company, Texaco Oil Company, Kaiser Permanente, and DirecTV.
  • Represented litigation trust in suit against 70 loan originators and financial institutions in multiple jurisdictions, resulting in several favorable settlements for the trust to date.
  • Represented hedge fund against Merrill Lynch in a margin call and liquidation case that resulted in one of the largest awards by a FINRA panel.
  • Represented regional bank against Transamerica Insurance Company and Clark Consulting Inc. in a bank-owned life insurance policy case that resulted in a nine-figure settlement.
  • Represented Dr. Enrico Bondi, as administrator of Parmalat SpA and other affiliated entities in extraordinary administration, in a billion dollar lawsuit against Bank of America that resulted in a nine-figure settlement.
  • Represented GMAC Mortgage Company in a $30 million dispute over alleged breach of loan servicing obligations and obtained defense verdict after bench trial.
  • Represented Zurich Insurance Company in a $20 million breach of contract suit brought by a Silver Street Pictures, a production company headed by Martin Landau and Richard Abramson.  Obtained defense verdict in jury trial.
  • Represented News Corporation in a multi-million dollar complaint brought by executives alleging fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, and tortious interference.  Obtained dismissal of complaint by motion.
  • Represented ASSI Super Inc. and Korean Farm Inc. in class action complaint alleging consumer fraud violations.  Obtained dismissal of complaint by motion.
  • Represented Parsons Corporation in a multi-million dollar complaint alleging violations of the Federal False Claims Act.  Obtained dismissal of complaint by motion.
  • Represented Texaco Oil Company in suit alleging race and national origin discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination in violation of public policy.  Obtained dismissal of complaint by motion.
  • Represented major university in lawsuit alleging discrimination based on sex and marital status.  Obtained dismissal of complaint by motion.
  • Represented major university in lawsuit alleging sex discrimination and harassment.  Obtained dismissal of complaint by motion.
  • Represented major university in lawsuit alleging breach of a finder's fee contract, seeking several millions of dollars in damages, against university.  Obtained dismissal of complaint by motion.
