Kevin Teruya is a Co-Chair of the Antitrust & Competition Practice at Quinn Emanuel and a partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office. He specializes in complex business litigation, focusing on antitrust, unfair competition, and intellectual property matters.  He has litigated numerous cases on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts in California and other states across the country.  He has been named as a “Top Antitrust Lawyer” by the Daily Journal, a “Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers, and one of the 500 leading plaintiff financial lawyers in the nation by Lawdragon.  He is a former officer of and advisor to the executive committee of the antitrust section of the State Bar of California, a member and former officer of the executive committee of the antitrust section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and a former member of the editorial board of the California State Bar antitrust treatise.

  • Represents Pacific Dental Services in an antitrust action under the California Cartwright Act involving an alleged conspiracy in the dental industry.
  • Represents consumer plaintiffs against Facebook in an antitrust class action involving monopolization in the markets for social networks and social media.
  • Represents LIV Golf and professional golfers against the PGA Tour in an antitrust action involving monopolization in the markets for the services of professional golfers for elite events and for the promotion of elite professional golf events, and an agreement to eliminate competition in those markets.
  • Represents Intuit against Visa and Mastercard in an antitrust action involving a conspiracy to fix interchange fees.
  • Represented Daimler and multiple subsidiaries in putative antitrust class actions involving an alleged conspiracy among German automotive manufacturers to reduce innovation in their vehicles.  The Court granted defendants’ motion to dismiss plaintiffs’ antirust claims in their entirety.
  • Represented homebuilders against drywall manufacturers in an antitrust action involving a price-fixing conspiracy in the drywall industry.
  • Represented Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in an antitrust action involving a price-fixing conspiracy in the automotive parts industry.
  • Represented Songkick against Live Nation and Ticketmaster in an antitrust action involving exclusive dealing, tying, and monopolization in the market for artist presale ticketing services.  Songkick obtained $110M in settlement.
  • Represented a technology company against Facebook in an antitrust action involving tying and monopolization in the market for virtual currency services on social game networks.
  • Represented Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in antitrust class actions involving an alleged price-fixing conspiracy in the cathode ray tube industry.
  • Represented Nestlé USA, Inc. and Nestlé Dreyer’s Ice Cream Company in an antitrust action under the California Cartwright Act involving an alleged conspiracy to exclude competition in a claimed market for “better for you” ice cream.  The Court granted Nestlé’s motion for summary judgment dismissing plaintiff’s antitrust claim.
  • Represented Micron Technology, Inc. in an antitrust action under the California Cartwright Act involving an alleged conspiracy to boycott a certain type of computer memory.  Rambus sought $4 billion in compensatory damages, trebled to $12 billion, from Micron.  After a three-month trial, the jury rejected Rambus’s claim and awarded no damages.
  • Represented direct purchaser class plaintiffs in an antitrust action involving a price-fixing conspiracy in the polyurethane foam industry. The Court granted plaintiffs’ motion seeking certification of a nationwide class of direct purchasers.  Plaintiffs obtained more than $430 million in settlements.
  • Represented Micron Technology, Inc. in an antitrust action involving an alleged conspiracy to boycott a certain type of semiconductor packaging.
  • Represented Micron Technology, Inc. in a patent infringement action regarding computer memory.  After a one-week bench trial, the Court ruled that Rambus could not enforce its patents against Micron, because Rambus had spoliated evidence and acted in bad faith.
  • Represented Freedom Wireless, Inc. in a patent infringement action regarding prepaid wireless telephone systems and methods.  After a 15-week trial, the jury awarded a $128 million verdict in favor of Freedom.
  • Represented Blockbuster Inc. in unfair competition class actions regarding its late fees policies and practices.
  • Represented a pharmaceutical company in antitrust class actions involving alleged monopolization, in a securities class action, and in patent infringement actions.
  • Represented a glass manufacturer in an antitrust class action involving an alleged price-fixing conspiracy.
  • Represented an office supplies retailer in a securities class action and through the merger review process.
