Walter Paul is an associate in Quinn Emanuel’s Chicago office. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, white collar defense and investigations, international law, and appellate litigation. He is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia and the State of Illinois.
Prior to joining the firm, Walter was a litigation associate at another international law firm. He then served as an Assistant Appellate Defender with the Office of the State Appellate Defender (“OSAD”) in Illinois. He has worked on matters involving big tech, data privacy, consumer protection, securities litigation, internal corporate investigations, constitutional law, criminal law, and appeals. Walter has argued before state appellate courts, independently filed petitions for review with a state supreme court, and won outright reversal of a criminal defendant’s guilty plea on due process grounds.
Walter graduated from Yale Law School in 2022, where he was an Articles Editor with the Yale Journal of International Law and worked extensively with Sterling Professor Bruce Ackerman on matters concerning constitutional law. He was also a clinical student in the Worker & Immigrant Rights Advocacy Clinic, where he advised Connecticut state lawmakers in drafting and passing landmark legislation, including post-COVID-19 worker recall (S.B. 658) and automatic records expungement (S.B. 1019, “Clean Slate”), one of the nation’s first ever and the most expansive of its kind.
Walter earned his undergraduate degree in political science and international relations and a minor in Arabic from Carleton College, where he served as student body president.
