Andreana Dobreva (b. 1982, Bulgaria) is a painter whose work explores historical, mythological, and psychological narratives through a contemporary lens. Weaving together classical techniques with a fragmented, almost cinematic sense of composition, her paintings create a space where past and present, figuration and abstraction, collide. With a background in icon painting and classical art, Dobreva engages deeply with art history while disrupting traditional hierarchies, constructing dreamlike, sometimes unsettling tableaux that reflect on power, desire, and the passage of time.
Dobreva studied Painting and Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, under Florian Pumhösl, as well as Educational Science and Psychology at Ludwig Maximilian University. She has exhibited internationally, with solo shows at Fiumano Clase Gallery (London), Heldenreizer Contemporary (Munich), Emanuel von Baeyer Cabinet (London), Lachenmann Art (Frankfurt), among others. Her work has been included in many group exhibitions, as the Monira Foundation (Jersey City), SVA Galleries (New York), Analog Diary (Beacon, NY), Zoya Museum (Slovakia), the Venice Arsenal, as well as major art fairs such as Frieze Masters, TEFAF, the London Art Fair, the Munich Highlights Art Fair.
She was awarded an international residency at The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in New York City (2024) and is currently a resident at the 2025 Quinn Emanuel Residency in London. Dobreva lives and works between New York and London.
