A particular focus of much of Jason’s work is compliance with anti-bribery and corruption laws. Jason is a recognized market leader in the Asia-Pacific region in the area of FCPA enforcement, compliance and regulation. His experience under the FCPA, UK Bribery Act, Australian Criminal Code and similar laws includes assisting clients with government-initiated and internal investigations throughout the Asia Pacific region, including in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, Laos, China, South Korea, Australia, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. In addition, Jason also has considerable experience in Africa (particularly South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Angola, Mozambique and Egypt) and South America (particularly, Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela). Jason is also recognized for his significant expertise in the development and implementation of ABC, sanctions and AML compliance programs, policies and structures designed to prevent and detect potential violations of law, as well as in the conduct of compliance-related due diligence investigations of business partners and third parties.
In this aspect of his practice, Jason is regularly involved in advising company boards and audit committees with respect to the many complicated issues that can arise in internal investigations, including consideration of disclosure to government and responding to whistle-blower complaints, as well as addressing cross-border discovery, privilege and data privacy issues.
Jason’s litigation practice focuses on representing companies and individuals in high stakes civil disputes in superior courts and administrative tribunals, as well as before government inquiries and commissions, often in matters related to his white collar practice. He has been trusted by clients in relation to bet-the-company litigation, shareholder and joint venture disputes, trade secret litigation, employment litigation, defamation proceedings, shareholder disputes, and administrative and judicial review matters.
Jason joined Quinn Emanuel from another global law firm where he led that firms white collar crime and investigations practice throughout the Asia-Pacific. He previously spent close to a decade in the New York office of a U.S.-headquartered global law firm where he was a counsel in the white-collar crime and government enforcement practice group of that firm. Jason has also spent time as an enforcement attorney at Australia’s corporate and markets regulator, and at the beginning of his legal career clerked for the Chief Justice of the Federal Court
