Jordan Kaericher joined Quinn Emanuel in 2009.  His practice focuses on high-stakes patent litigation and other intellectual property matters.  He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA, and has applied his diverse technical training to offensive and defensive matters involving a wide-range of technologies, including digital rights management, tamper-resistant computing, network communications, cloud computing, telecommunications, circuit design, power control systems, electric aircraft, video compression, color reproduction control systems, and various aspects of electronic commerce.  His experience also involves general complex commercial litigation.

Jordan has experience in prominent patent venues across the country.  He has litigated cases through trial in Federal Court and before the International Trade Commission, and he has also worked on matters before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

  • Represented Intertrust Technologies in actions against AMC, Apple, Cinemark, Dolby, Regal, and other prominent entities in enforcement of patents related to tamper-resistant computing and digital rights management.  Obtained multiple favorable settlements.
  • Defended Harbor Freight Tools in patent and trade dress case related to power control systems in welding power supplies.  Obtained denial of plaintiff’s motion for preliminary injunction and favorable settlement.
  • Represented Seiko Epson at the International Trade Commission asserting five patents covering ink jet cartridge technology against nineteen respondents.  Obtained General Exclusion Order and Cease-And-Desist Orders.
  • Represented Samsung as complainant against Apple at the International Trade Commission.  Obtained the first ever exclusion order against Apple.
  • Defended Google, Samsung, and HTC in Eastern District of Texas patent case related to the online payment for and distribution of content, such as apps, videos, and music.  Obtained stay pending covered business method review shortly before trial, leading to invalidation of the patents.
  • Defended Cisco in patent case related to technology for virtual meetings.  Obtained summary judgment invalidating the asserted patent, and subsequent affirmance on appeal.
  • Defended Seiko Epson in patent case related color reproduction control technology.  Obtained favorable settlement.
