August Melcher is an associate in Quinn Emanuel’s San Francisco office. He joined the firm in 2025. His practice focuses on intellectual property litigation. Prior to joining the firm, August worked as a patent litigation associate at another major international law firm, an extern at NYU Langone Health’s Department of Technology Transactions, and a researcher and instructor in UC Berkeley’s Department of Chemistry.
August’s practice spans a variety of technologies, including small molecule therapeutics, biologics, medical devices, cell-free DNA testing technology, and gene sequencing technology. His experience includes working with expert witnesses, taking and defending depositions, dispositive motions, trials, and appeals. August also has experience counseling clients regarding IP issues related to corporate transactions.
August’s pro bono experience includes § 1983 civil rights litigation related to a coerced confession, a Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) immigration petition, and a veteran affairs appeal.
