Walter Paul Obote is an associate in Quinn Emanuel’s Chicago office. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, international law, and appellate litigation. He is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia and the State of Illinois.
Walter was a litigation associate at another international law firm prior to joining Quinn. He then served as an Assistant Appellate Defender with the Illinois Office of the State Appellate Defender, where he won outright reversal for an indigent criminal defendant on due process grounds and argued before Illinois appellate courts.
Walter graduated from Yale Law School in 2022. He was an Articles Editor with the Yale Journal of International Law and worked extensively with Sterling Professor Bruce Ackerman on matters concerning constitutional law and international relations. He was also a clinical student in the Worker & Immigrant Rights Advocacy Clinic, where he advised Connecticut state lawmakers in drafting and passing landmark legislation, including post-COVID-19 worker recall (S.B. 658) and automatic records expungement (S.B. 1019), one of the most expansive of its kind.
Walter earned his undergraduate degree in political science and international relations and a minor in Arabic from Carleton College, where he served as student body president.
