Dr. Isabel Ruigewaard (neé Huynh Cong) is a German qualified attorney (Rechtsanwältin) and an Associate in Quinn Emanuel’s Stuttgart office. She joined the firm in 2019.
Her practice focuses on patent litigation and commercial litigation, litigating high stakes cases at German courts both at trial and appellate levels, in opposition proceedings at the EPO and in nullity actions before the German Patent Court. She also has acted in proceedings before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in her capacity as a registered representative.
Isabel’s patent litigation practice focuses on advising in and representing clients in matter involving a wide range of technologies, such as defending a communications technology company against claims regarding networking technology; representing a pharmaceuticals company in infringement and validity proceedings regarding an active ingredient for cancer treatment; representing a data collection company in infringement proceedings relating to barcode scanner technology; and a software company against infringement claims regarding augmented reality. She has also represented a major OEM in patent litigation regarding communication technology and continues representing them before the German civil courts at appellate level in commercial proceedings. Isabel has also brought infringement claims on behalf of the firm’s clients in matters relating to scan technologies, camera technology, and medical equipment. She also has significant experience in patent vetting, notably in the areas of battery technology, medical equipment and communications.
Isabel graduated from the University of Mannheim in 2011 and completed her legal clerkship at the District Court of Heidelberg in 2013. Her clerkship included internships at two top-tier international law firms focusing on M&A and Litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Isabel worked as a research assistant for Professor Carsten Schäfer at the Chair of Civil, Commercial and Corporate Law at the University of Mannheim, while writing her doctoral thesis on the intersection of corporate and insurance law.
