Quinn Emanuel has filed a lawsuit on behalf of 12 plaintiffs—seniors ranging in age from 70 to over 90 years old and their families—who lost their homes in January's devastating Los Angeles wildfire in the Pacific Palisades.
Our clients include a 93-year-old Holocaust survivor and a former U.S. Navy pilot undergoing cancer treatment. As reported in the Los Angeles Times, our firm has filed a complaint alleging the city including LADWP made a conscious decision not to repair critical infrastructure, including two empty reservoirs and over 1,000 hydrants-- 24 of them in the Palisades area. They also chose not to de- energize power based on the erroneous assumption that an urban area like Los Angeles was not prone to wildfires.
"The city, including DWP, is culpable for the harms our clients have suffered," said partner Crystal Nix-Hines. "This could have been prevented."
Partner Jeffrey Boozell added, "The city's conscious decisions to leave its reservoir dry and its power on are simply unforgivable."
We remain committed to securing justice for these vulnerable residents whose lives have been upended by this preventable tragedy.
