LOS ANGELES (July 29, 2025) — Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, the world’s leading business litigation firm, is proud to announce the launch of the Quinn Emanuel Arts Foundation, the first-ever foundation established by a top-tier law firm to focus exclusively on the arts.
This initiative represents a bold new chapter in Quinn Emanuel’s longstanding commitment to empowering artists and investing in the cultural fabric of its communities. The Foundation plans to grow the firm’s longstanding Artist-in-Residence program, with the goal of supporting more artists and exploring new ways to support the arts in the years to come.
“During a time when national funding for the arts is increasingly precarious, we believe it’s more important than ever to uplift artists and provide meaningful support to creative ecosystems,” said John B. Quinn, Founder and Chairman of Quinn Emanuel. “The Foundation reflects our belief in the transformative societal value of art and the power of philanthropy to fuel artistic innovation.”
Since its inception in 2021, Quinn Emanuel’s Artist-in-Residence program has invested over $500,000 in supporting 21 emerging artists in Los Angeles, New York, and London. Program recipients receive a dedicated studio space within the firm’s offices, four months of financial support, and culminate their residencies with an exhibition. The firm acquires at least one piece from each artist for its permanent collection, ensuring long-term visibility and support.
“This isn’t a side project—it’s a firm-wide initiative to reinforce the bond between law and the arts,” said Alexis Hyde, Executive Director of the Foundation. “We are committed to helping artists not just survive, but thrive. With this Foundation, we aim to set a new standard for how the private sector—and especially the legal industry—can be a force for cultural good.”
Quinn Emanuel remains deeply committed to championing its Artist-in-Residence alumni long after their residencies conclude. Alumni have gone on to exhibit their work at institutions such as the Long Beach Museum of Art, prominent galleries like François Ghebaly, and major art fairs including Felix, The Armory Show, and Frieze. Rising star Edgar Ramirez sold out his booth at NADA Miami and now exhibits internationally, including at Lisson Gallery in New York, while Francisco Palomares’ work has been acquired by the Cheech Marin Collection and featured in institutional exhibitions throughout Southern California. These stories are just a glimpse of the work the Foundation seeks to replicate and expand.
The launch of the Foundation will be marked by an exhibition and celebration on July 31, 2025, at Frieze’s No. 9 Cork Street space in London, spotlighting current artists-in-residence and celebrating the Foundation’s expanding international footprint.
The Foundation’s Board of Directors will include Quinn Emanuel partner Luke Nikas, Co-Chair of the firm’s Art Litigation and Disputes Practice, with additional support from firm partners including Jennifer J. Barrett, Co-Managing Partner of the firm’s New York office; Kevin Johnson, a 2025 Lawdragon 500 Leading Global IP Lawyer and former punk rock musician; Liesl Fichardt, a Legal 500–recognized UK tax litigation expert; and Julianne Hughes Jennett, a UK-based attorney named to the Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Litigators Guide for International Disputes.
