Quinn Emanuel Secures Major Victories for V.tal in Oi Cross-Border Restructuring Battle

We’re proud to share major victories for our client V.tal in Oi's cross-border restructuring battle.

When Oi defaulted on its Brazilian reorganization plan and attempted an unprecedented maneuver—terminating its chapter 15 case to file chapter 11 in the U.S. to restructure obligations that could not be adjusted in Brazil—we stepped in.

After a two-day trial in August 2025, on October 1, Judge Beckerman in the SDNY rejected Oi's maneuver in furtherance of international comity.

Based in part on the evidence and testimony we developed at trial, V.tal realized another critical win in Brazilian business court in Rio de Janeiro, resulting in the ejection of Oi's executive management and financial advisors, and the appointment of a judicial trustee.
