Quinn Emanuel's team, led by Stephen Broome and Richard Werder, successfully defended Len Blavatnik against a $2 billion lawsuit filed by Leonid Lebedev. Lebedev claimed that they committed fraud, breached their fiduciary duties, joint venture agreement, and contract by not paying him his purported share of proceeds from TNK-BP's sale to Rosneft in 2013. The litigation lasted a decade, involved proceedings across the globe, multiple rounds of summary judgment briefing, and three appeals to the First Department. Finally, the First Department affirmed the dismissal on summary judgment of Lebedev's last remaining claim for breach of contract.
