Jennifer English is Of Counsel in our Los Angeles office. She has extensive experience in antitrust matters, data breach litigation and incident response, and complex business disputes. Ms. English is listed as a Best Lawyers in America for Antitrust Litigation and IP Litigation, 2021-2025, and was recognized in Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch, “Women in the Law," in 2022.
Antitrust litigation is a primary aspect of Ms. English’s practice. She represents more than 37 plaintiffs in multi-district litigation in federal court in Washington, D.C. alleging price fixing regarding rail freight charges. Her clients include Conagra, Hyundai, Kia, Talen, Holcim Group, Nutrien, California Steel, Nova Chemicals, and Vulcan Materials. Ms. English is front and center in coordinating this large-scale MDL, working with other plaintiffs’ counsel from around the country.
In addition, she represented event ticketer Songkick in an antitrust and trade secrets lawsuit in Los Angeles federal court. The litigation resulted in a settlement of $110 million, along with defendants’ agreement to acquire assets for a confidential amount.
Ms. English is also experienced in antitrust investigation and analysis.
Data breach matters are another key focus for Ms. English. Her practice includes significant response, investigation and litigation matters arising from ransomware attacks and other data security incidents.
She works to quickly mobilize a team of attorneys, forensic experts and negotiation experts inside and outside the United States to assess and respond to data breach incidents. Ms. English has experience interviewing employees and vendors to investigate the source of the incident, reporting to law enforcement, and coordinating experts’ ransom negotiations.
In addition, Ms. English advises clients regarding privacy laws that apply to data incidents, including assessment of whether personally identifiable information was compromised.
Ms. English has other representative matters in practice areas beyond antitrust and data breach. Ms. English represents a subsidiary of multinational conglomerate Lotte in litigation with a competitor relating to a public contract in Guam Superior Court.
In RMBS litigation, Ms. English represented plaintiffs in residential mortgage-backed securities matters in federal and state courts in New York, Massachusetts, and California. She worked with experts assessing mortgage underwriting deficiencies that led up to the collapse of the RMBS market and the financial crisis of 2007-2008.
For Mattel, Ms. English was part of a trial team for a three-month trial of intellectual property claims in federal court in Santa Ana.
Ms. English also maintains an active pro bono practice, with a focus on obtaining asylum for individuals and their families who have been the targets of violence in their home countries. She recently obtained asylum in immigration court in Los Angeles for a human rights activist and her family, as well as a favorable decision in California state court for the activist and her family.
