James Smithdale is a Senior Associate in Quinn Emanuel’s London office. His practice covers all forms of commercial litigation and arbitration. James is qualified as a barrister and previously practised as a tenant at a leading commercial set of chambers. James has wide experience of arbitrations (domestic and international) under various institutional rules, including investor-state disputes. He is also experienced in English High Court litigation with a particular interest in applications for emergency relief.
James read Jurisprudence at the University of Oxford, where he was a scholar at Christ Church and graduated in 2011 with First Class Honours. In 2013, James returned to the University of Oxford to study for the B.C.L., from which he graduated with Distinction, specialising in Conflict of Laws, Restitution of Unjust Enrichment, Commercial Remedies, and Transnational Commercial Law.
