Quinn Emanuel Awarded $185 Million in Fees for Affordable Care Act Suit

Firm News

U.S. Court Federal Claims Judge Kathryn Davis awarded the firm nearly $185 million in fees this week for representing health insurers that were set to receive $3.7 billion from the federal government under an Obamacare program. Quinn Emanuel was the first to nationally file a lawsuit in 2016 over the government’s failure to make “risk corridor” payments owed to insurers under the Affordable Care Act. The firm argued that it took a ‘substantial risk’ pursuing that case. Quinn Emanuel Partner Stephen Swedlow commented that the firm is proud of its work in the litigation, adding that “we believed the 5% fee was reasonable at the time we requested it and our position was validated by the court.”
