Congratulations to the Quinn Emanuel team of Alicia Cobb, Steig D. Olson, Adam Wolfson, David LeRay, Nic Siebert, and Andrew Faisman for winning the certification of a class of approximately 30,000 computer game publishers bringing antitrust claims against Valve. The case relates to Valve's alleged conduct of imposing price and content parity policies that inhibit competition from rival personal computer gaming platforms.
The case has enormous consequences for game purchasers and publishers that use Steam. Approximately $6-7 billion in game sales take place through Valve’s gaming platform on an annual basis, and Valve charges a typical commission of 30% per sale. Potential class-wide overcharges range in the multiple billions of dollars. The case is proceeding towards trial in late 2025.
