The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is being felt around the world. In this article we consider legal issues which are likely to be relevant to those doing business, particularly in relation to construction projects, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ("KSA"). We compare the position in respect of particular legal issues in the KSA with that in England, and New York, USA.
The KSA is in a period of massive economic and social development. It is reported that more than USD 1.6 trillion in construction projects are underway in the KSA. A number of multi-billion dollar ‘giga projects’ are underway in the KSA, including the Red Sea Development and NEOM. The pandemic poses particular risks in the KSA given the volume and complexity of work underway and planned.
