Beau is a partner in the Quinn Emanuel Australia office. Before joining the firm in early 2014, Beau was a Managing Partner at King & Wood Mallesons, responsible for leading the firm’s global dispute resolution practice.

Beau has been the lead lawyer on some of Australia’s largest litigation and insolvency disputes, including acting for Tap Oil and Kufpec in the $1bn Burrup Fertilisers gas contract dispute, and representing CBA and BOSI in defending multiple claims made by the Saraceni group (funded by Bentham IMF). His areas of expertise include:

  • Securities and continuous disclosure – regulatory investigations, prosecutions and civil claims

Beau has been repeatedly recognised by clients and peers as one of the outstanding lawyers in his field. He has extensive experience advising boards on risk and insolvency issues, while also appearing as counsel in the superior courts on complex litigation. He is often sought out by clients for his ability to identify innovative legal strategies to obtain exceptional commercial outcomes.

  • Representing Apache, Tap Oil and Kuwati Petroleum in Supreme Court litigation defending claims concerning their off-take obligations to Burrup Fertilisers – amount involved >$1bn
  • Outside counsel assisting ASIC in continuous disclosure civil penalties actions against Fortescue Metals Group
  • Representing Bankwest (a division of CBA) and Bank of Scotland International in multiple Supreme Court litigation arising out of the insolvency of the Saraceni Group of Companies – amount involved >$500m
  • Representing Macquarie Bank and other key financiers in relation to the administrations of Sons of Gwalia Limited, Croesus Mining and Copperco – amount involved >$750m
  • Representing BHP Billiton in relation to numerous litigations, anti-trust tribunal hearings and representation in relation to the external administration and recapitalisation of the HWE Group of Companies
  • Advising Korda Mentha, as receivers and managers and advisors in relation to multiple corporate groups - eg: Midwest Vandium – in relation to the $140m restructuring and recapitilisation of the group, including senior and mezz debt
  • Representing Epic Energy in full court judicial review of the independent regulator’s assessment of a $2.4bn pipeline capital base – amount involved >$1.1bn
  • Advising a confidential client in relation to the acquisition of distressed energy assets from a liquidator – amount involved >$210m
  • Advising Ferrier Hodgson, as receivers and managers and administrators/liquidators of multiple corporate groups – eg: Saraceni group companies; Great Southern Group
  • External counsel to Forest Products Commission in relation to disputes and insolvency issues with harvesting and supply customers including arbitrations and mediations
  • Macquarie Bank, National Australia Bank, Westpac and St George on numerous insolvency and contentious matters (particularly concerning listed and public companies)
