Lucas Loviscek is a partner in Quinn Emanuel’s Washington D.C. office with more than fifteen years of experience successfully representing clients in investment and commercial arbitration and complex litigation. Lucas represents clients in high-stakes disputes and arbitrations administered under major rules and institutions such as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Center for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), and UNCITRAL.

His experience spans pre-dispute negotiation, conduction of proceedings, discovery proceedings and recognition and enforcement of judicial decisions and awards. Lucas is qualified in the U.S. and in Argentina,and has extensive experience litigating under both civil and common law systems, and international law.

Lucas has represented clients in a variety of industries, including oil and gas, mining, energy, maritime commerce, infrastructure, automobile, financial services, security and telecommunications. Legal 500 has named him as a recommended lawyer for International Arbitration and Litigation (2023) and Lawdragon 500 has recognized him as a leading lawyer in global energy disputes and litigation (2023-2024).

Prior to joining the firm, Lucas worked as a litigation and arbitration senior counsel in one of the leading law firms in Argentina.

  • Counsel for U.S. investors in an investment treaty arbitration and related judicial proceedings in South America and the U.S. against a South American state arising from the illegal expropriation of mining concessions.
  • Counsel for a South American group of construction companies in multiple treaty arbitrations against the Republic of Peru for the expropriation and illegal treatment of the clients’ projects in Peru.
  • Counsel for a European holding company in an investment treaty dispute against the Republic of Peru arising from the unfair treatment of the client’s investment in a major hydroelectric project.
  • Counsel for a Colombian sugar and energy producer and its affiliates in two ICC arbitrations related to their investments in and operation of two major sugar and energy projects in Central America.

  • Counsel for three international shipping companies in an international commercial arbitration against their agents concerning their operations in Chile, Brazil and Uruguay.
  • Counsel for an Argentine oil-producing and operating company against a Canadian oil company in an international arbitration under the LCIA Arbitration Rules arising from the breach and termination of an operating agreement.
  • Counsel for an Argentine oil producing company in an international arbitration before the Arbitral Tribunal of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange against its Canadian partner in a joint venture to exploit two oil concessions in Patagonia, Argentina.
