Meghan A. McCaffrey is co-managing partner in Quinn Emanuel’s Washington, D.C. office.  Ms. McCaffrey is an accomplished trial lawyer, representing major U.S. and multinational corporations in complex business disputes and multi-billion dollar commercial litigation in federal and state courts throughout the United States.  Ms. McCaffrey’s experience spans a wide range of industries, including the defense, government, pharmaceutical, products liability, marine, construction, and consumer products sectors.  Her work has involved handling high-profile matters such as the Fukushima nuclear accident, 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, and the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  Ms. McCaffrey also has extensive experience conducting, representing and counseling companies, individuals, and senior executives on sensitive internal and government investigations relating to a variety of subjects, including the False Claims Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”), and other complex civil and criminal matters.  Many of these actions have been featured in major news publications.   

In 2019, Ms. McCaffrey was named a Law360 Rising Star, which recognizes attorneys under 40 who have demonstrated outstanding career accomplishments.  In 2020, Ms. McCaffrey was also recognized as a Global Investigations Review 40 under 40, awarded to the world’s leading young investigations specialists. 

Ms. McCaffrey earned her J.D. with Honors from the University of Texas Law School, where she served as Co-Chair of the International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court team.  She graduated summa cum laude as a University Scholar from the University of Pittsburgh, where she dual majored in History and Political Science.

  • Represent Express Scripts, one of the largest pharmacy benefit managers in the U.S., in multiple cases  relating to breach of contract, fraud, antitrust, and RICO claims across the country.   
  • Represent leading international helicopter manufacturer in connection with a high profile accident in the Grand Canyon.     
  • Co-lead trial counsel in multiple jury trials; secured complete defense verdict in favor of clients.      
  • Represented a senior executive in connection with an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.   
  • Represented the former CEO of a Fortune 500 company in multiple class actions, regulatory investigations, and congressional hearings relating to the one of the largest cyber security breaches in U.S. history.
  • Represented defense contractor in an action alleging violations of the False Claims Act, breach of contract and fraud based on conduct in Iraq. Successfully secured favorable settlement of all claims in government-intervened action. 
  • Representation of defense contractor in False Claims Act case involving allegations of falsified weapons qualifications in Kabul, Afghanistan, resulting in favorable settlement of all claims.
  • Defense of Toyobo, a major Japanese fiber manufacturer, in federal and state False Claims Act cases arising from the sale of a high-performance fiber used in the manufacture of hundreds of thousands of bullet-resistant vests.
  • Represented and provided crisis management counseling to a multinational company in connection with the Fukushima, Japan nuclear accident.
  • Represented Bovis Lend Lease and secured a favorable outcome in mass tort litigation involving thousands of claims made by emergency workers arising out of the debris removal operations following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
  • Advised one of the world's largest mineral resource companies on its negotiations with foreign governments and compliance with U.S. laws.
  • Representation of a large U.S. oil-spill cleanup company in connection with Congressional and other government investigations of the Deepwater Horizon accident in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Defense of the U.S. military's largest suppliers of jet fuel to troops in Afghanistan in a Congressional investigation of alleged corruption in Central Asia and follow-on investigations conducted by foreign authorities.
  • Representation of a large US multinational industrial products company in FCPA investigations regarding operations in China, Mexico, and Turkey.
  • Representation of a multinational pharmaceutical company based in Europe in an investigation of alleged FCPA violations in its Southeast Asia operations.
