Victory at the Federal Circuit for Life Spine Inc. 🏆
Quinn Emanuel successfully reversed a Patent Trial and Appeal Board's (PTAB) decision upholding key claims of Globus Medical's spinal implant patent – claims that had been the subject of a $9.5 million jury verdict against our client. Jim Glass, the Chair of QE’s Post Grant practice group, argued the case on behalf of Life Spine. The Federal Circuit agreed with our claim construction, finding that the board's interpretation was fundamentally at odds with the patent's own specification, rendering the challenged claims invalid as obvious.
As Life Spine CEO Rich Mueller put it: "This outcome confirms what we've known from the beginning – that these claims lacked merit and that our technology stands on solid ground."
