Claudia Bogdanos is Of Counsel in the Firm’s New York office.  Claudia  specializes in intellectual-property litigation in federal and state courts and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, with particular expertise in consumer surveys. She also has experience in domestic and international trademark prosecution and search evaluation.  She represents litigants in  trademark, unfair competition, and false-advertising actions and is experienced in settlement negotiations and mediation.  Her past and present representations include Boy Scouts of America, Gucci, Deckers Outdoor Corporation (UGG boots), the controlling entity of the Casino de Monte Carlo, NFL Properties and its member clubs, and ESPN.

  • Represented Samsung in a wide-ranging action in which Apple asserted trademark, trade dress and patent claims against numerous Samsung smartphones and tablet computers.  After discovery and before trial, Apple dismissed its trademark claims. On the trade dress infringement claims that remained for trial, Samsung obtained a jury verdict that found no infringement.  Samsung also prevailed at trial on a majority of Apple’s trade dress dilution claims, including all of those relating to tablet computers and its current smartphone models.
  • Represented the Washington Redskins in several challenges to its long-held trademark registrations, brought by Suzan Harjo and six other petitioners and by Amanda Blackhorse and four others, on the grounds that the marks disparage and otherwise injure Native Americans. The case was dismissed, and the Redskin's registrations preserved. 
  • Represented Diageo PLC in defending a trademark action brought by The Explorers Club in New York City over Diageo’s JOHNNIE WALKER  EXPLORERS’ CLUB COLLECTION blended Scotch whiskey.  The case settled on favorable terms.
  • Represented Legal & General Group PLC against The Travelers Indemnity Company in a contract and trademark dispute over the parties’ respective umbrella designs.  The case settled on favorable terms.
  • Represented Deckers Outdoor Corporation in a trademark dispute against Emu, a manufacturer and seller of pull-on sheepskin boots, for referring to its own boots as “ugg boots” on its website—a blatant attempt to “genericize” the UGG trademark and deprive Deckers of its long-standing U.S. trademark rights in the designs.  The case settled on favorable terms.
  • Represented Deckers in a trade dress dispute against Romeo & Juliette, Inc., the manufacturer of Bearpaw sheepskin boots, for infringement of protectable design elements of several iconic Ugg styles.  The case settled on favorable terms.
  • Represented the Societe des Bains de Mer in protecting its CASINO DE MONTE CARLO trademark against the federal registration of the mark MONTE CARLO by Victoria Partners.  The case settled on favorable terms.
  • Represented NFL Properties and the Baltimore Ravens against claims of copyright infringement concerning the team's logo design.  The resulting jury verdict was favorable to NFL Properties and the Baltimore Ravens.
  • Represented the Chicago Bears and the Baltimore Ravens in preventing Twelfth Man Tennessee from obtaining federal trademark registrations for the respective designations 12TH BEAR and 12TH RAVEN.  The Chicago Bears and the Baltimore Ravens prevailed with a full victory.
  • Represented ESPN in protecting its X GAMES brand against an individual seeking to register the mark A GAMES for action-sports television programming and events.
